“I’m happy, my kids are happy.”
“I don’t want my daughters to ever feel that pain,” Tish says, recalling when her daughter’s father attacked Tish and left her for dead.
Tish knew she had to protect her children and escape, but with no family or friends to rely on, they ended up homeless. But Tish was determined to provide for her kids, and they came to City Rescue Mission with the ultimate goal of finding permanent housing.
Here, thanks to the support of friends like you, Tish learned to trust others again and strengthen her relationship with God. Feeling whole, safe and secure, she and her children recently moved into an apartment with her kids.
“It’s a rush, honestly,” Tish says. “I’m happy, my kids are happy.”
Now, Tish still gets to see her friends and mentors at the Mission whenever she comes to work at Rise Café. She has helped develop the pastries, sandwiches, salads and coffee that are available in our newly opened café, and she is learning other valuable skills.
“That’s why we’re here,” says Mission President and CEO Erin Goodin. “To instill judgement-free love. This is so important during the holiday season when people are hurting the most. And with Thanksgiving just around the corner, we’ll have increased opportunity to make a real, lasting impact in the lives of those who need it most.”
Only through the gifts of friends like you can we continue to help people like Tish and her children.
