James’s Journey

James outside of city rescue mission as he tells his story wearing a black and gray jacket

“I’m excited for the future”

After graduating from college, James felt like the sky was the limit. He had a great job teaching, he was directing plays, and his career as a country musician was on the cusp of taking off. But when his relationship with the woman he was seeing went south, James was devastated. He turned to alcohol to fill the void he felt inside, and he struggled to climb out of a pit of depression. He spent months homeless, trying to survive on the streets.

“Living on the streets in the summer is dangerous,” James says.

He was always worried about the heat and where he would sleep for the night, and he constantly wondered if his meager possessions would still be there in the morning.

“Being homeless is debilitating mentally,” he says. “There’s almost no way to describe how bad it is unless you’ve done it yourself.”

James knew he wouldn’t last much longer on the streets, and he prayed to God for help finding salvation.

“I said, ‘Lord, just send me to the right place.’ That’s when I found City Rescue Mission.”

Thanks to you, we were able to welcome James with open arms! And now that he was finally in a safe, secure environment where his basic needs were met, James could begin to heal and rebuild his life.

Today, thanks to you, James is sober and excited for the future. He has found a full-time position helping others transform their lives, and he is looking forward to making music once again. James says he will always be grateful for the help that you gave him. “Jesus Christ is my Savior, but you are my angels.”

Only through the generosity of friends like you can we continue making a real, lasting difference in the lives of more hurting people like James. Thank you for all you do!
