“I feel like I’m human again”
Yassine was ecstatic when he got the news — his green card was approved, and he could legally move to America. He found accommodations until he could achieve the next part of his dream: joining the United States Army and gain full citizenship. But before that could happen, Yassine became homeless. Living on the street for months was tough, he says. The worst part was the cold.
“It was miserable,” Yassine says. “Especially when it was snowing or raining.”
To make matters worse, Yassine’s green card was stolen. His American dream seemed like it was over. So when Yassine heard about City Rescue Mission and our services, he came here as soon as he could.
Thanks to the support of people like you, he was welcomed with open arms.
Yassine came to the Mission for the basics, like hot food, a warm bed and safe shelter, but he found so much more. He found a chance to make his hopes and dreams come true.
“To be here feels like I’m in heaven,” Yassine says. “I feel like I’m human again.”
We are helping Yassine get a replacement green card, and he is excited to join the Army.
“I want to serve this country because America has given me a lot,” he says. And you have given Yassine more than he could have ever hoped for through your gifts to City Rescue Mission. Today Yassine has hope for a new life.
“This is why America is the great country in the world,” he says, when asked about the Mission’s supporters. “Americans don’t let each other down. That’s love.”
