This is my chance at a life I was never given

She was addicted and suicidal with nowhere to go — and KK was only 9 years old.
KK learned early on that her pain could be pushed aside with a few sips from a bottle. That idea followed her throughout her childhood and into her adult life, where KK got worse and worse as her chemical dependence became overwhelming, leaving her homeless.
Finally, KK decided enough was enough. She came to City Rescue Mission ready for a change, and thanks to the gifts of friends like you, we were there for her.
KK went through our Bridge to Life recovery program while working in our kitchen, and now she feels like she is the person she was always meant to be.
“I can let people love me now, and I can trust and love other people,” KK says. “This is my chance at a life I was never given.”
Today, KK is a full-time staff member who manages our kitchen, helping cook the hot meals that have brought so many people like her out of the cold and into a new life.
