“This program is working. Without it, we wouldn’t have any hope.”
When James completed his service in the U.S. Army, he felt like the sky was the limit. Energetic and optimistic, he pursued a career as a welder, only to learn the hard way how competitive and difficult this line of work had become. James’s difficulties became worse when he herniated a disc in his back.
This once proud soldier began to lose hope. He turned to drugs and alcohol to dull the ache he felt inside. One bad choice led to another, until James found himself homeless, struggling to survive on the street.
“Life has been up and down, like a spiral for me,” James remembers. “I got tired of living the way I was, and I wanted to get my life back together. That’s why I came to City Rescue Mission.”
Thanks to the help of dedicated donors like you, James’s decision to come to the Mission marked the start of the rest of his life. Here, he has found the love, acceptance and structure he needs to begin his transformation.
