Brenda’s Breakthrough

“You’ve given me a new beginning”

When Brenda describes her life growing up as “a little crazy,” that is an understatement. As young children, she and her six siblings were raised by their abusive and alcoholic mother, until they were placed into the foster care system. For years, Brenda bounced from home to home, never feeling like she belonged anywhere.

After high school Brenda married and had a child with a man she thought she could trust. Little did Brenda know that he would treat her even worse than her mother had. He began physically abusing Brenda. She turned to drugs to cope with the pain and shame she felt.

But when she ended up in the hospital with a concussion and staples in her head, Brenda knew she had to escape with her son.

Thankfully, Brenda had heard about City Rescue Mission, and thanks to generous people like you, we were able to greet her with open arms.

Brenda is almost a month away from graduating from our Bridge to Life recovery program, and she feels like a completely different person.

“I’m incredibly thankful,” she says. “You’ve given me a new beginning, and now nothing can stop me from living my life!”
